(trip) Tahoe Backcountry Skiing #1 Start: 12/29/2009 1:00 am End: 12/30/2009 1:00 am Come join us for the first in our new Tahoe Backcountry Skiing Series. We will ski wherever we can find the best snow, with the target always being fresh deep powder. December is often the best powder. Requires advanced skiing skills (resort black diamond+), avalanche training. Randonee or Telemark skis, climbing skis, avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe. (trip) Sutter Buttes Start: 12/30/2009 9:00 am End: 12/30/2009 6:00 pm The Sutter Buttes are the oldest and smallest volcanic range in California; a geologic and botanical wonder, preserved as a private park by the Middle Mountain Foundation. See http://middlemountain.org. We'll meet in Yuba City CA at 9:00 a.m., ready to caravan to the preserve. Some of us will travel up the night before, and others will start extra early to make the drive before dawn (3 hours from Santa Clara County). The hike is about 6-8 miles and 1000 vertical feet.
