Koip Peak Ski Mountaineering
Climb Koip Peak from the east and ski down it. Camp at Parker Lake below the peak Friday and Saturday nights. Requires excellent physical condition, advanced skiing skills, avalanche training, snow camping, Randonee or Telemark skis, climbing skis, ski crampons, boot crampons, ice axe, helmet, avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe. This is a phenomenal ski descent under good conditions – 5000 feet vertical. Of course, that means a big fast climb is needed to get up as well as down the peak in a day. The recently published guide to skiing the eastern Sierra has great photos. Richins guide has a good description. Restricted trip - Sierra Club membership and medical form required.
